Look Out T-Mobile Here Comes SBC FreedomLink(sm)

For another $2.00 added to your $26.95 DSL service through SBC, you can access one of the SBC’s 3,900 existing FreedomLink WiFi locations nationwide. SBC plans to have 20,000 WiFi hotspots by the end of 2006 and they plan to partner with Cingular for high-speed network access. That’s not a bad deal considering that T-Mobile, who I use as my mobile carrier, with 4,907 current locations charges $29.99 for an annual WiFi subscription and $39.99 if you choose to pay month-to-month–that would be in addition to whatever you pay for your DSL service at home whereas for less money using SBC you get both DSL at home and WiFi access when away. The only drawback of SBC is they are located mostly in McDonald’s and UPS Store locations and need to increase the number of coffee and bookstores they service to match T-Mobile’s convenience. Thanks to Dave’s iPAQ for this info and the wireless article in the prior post.
