The New Breed of Black Politicians, Part II

Yvonne Bynoe of the UrbanThinkTank.com has published a follow up article to her first piece on the New Breed of Black Politicians. Part II of this series examines the reasons behind the oucome of the recent Newark, New Jersey mayoral election. A young, black challenger, Corey Booker, lost the race to the legacy black leader, Sharpe James, in a election campaign that turned nasty and resulted in insults and accusations across both camps on a national stage. Booker lost by a small margin even though he was better financed because his support base was questioned and his experience and ties to the city were not as strong as James. Bynoe gives a nice summary of “things to do” for other young hopefuls who aspire to political office.
